Jelly Slice

So I gave Jelly Slice a go recently. It is a Hacksaw Gaming release, and honestly, it is a bit of a sugar overload. You have got this bright pink and cyan world, almost anime-style, with a girl holding a clipboard on the side. The grid is 5 reels by 4 rows initially, starting with 1,024 ways, but because of the slicing bit, it can go up to over a million ways. It has got a medium volatility, which felt about right during my session, and the RTP sits at a decent 96.24%. It reminds me a bit of those wobbly jellies we used to have at parties, just more digital and with a chance to win.

On the reels, you have got your standard royals, 10 through Ace, but they have made them look all jelly-like to fit the theme. The good stuff is the actual jelly creatures in different colours—green, blue, purple, orange, and the top one is jagged red blob. If you land five of the red ones, you get 10x your bet. There is also a Rainbow Star Wild which helps stick things together, paying 20x if you get five of them. It is pretty straightforward, no messing about with complicated symbols.

This is where it gets interesting. The main trick here is the Slicer Mechanic. Before symbols drop, you might get a Slicer appearing on a reel that cuts anything passing through it into 2, 3, or 4 pieces. It is brilliant watching them tumble down and split up, racking up those ways to win. It works with cascading wins too, so if you clear some space, new symbols drop in and get sliced as well.

Then you have got the Razor-Sharp Bonus. You need at least 5 FS Scatter symbols to trigger it. It sounds like a lot, but remember, the slicer can chop scatters too, counting mostly towards the trigger! During the free spins, the Slicers pop up more often. I found it a bit hit or miss, but when the grid fills up with sliced symbols, the wins can stack up nicely towards that 10,000x max win. You can also buy the bonus if you are impatient, but that is a quick way to burn through a tenner if you aren't careful.

Look, Jelly Slice isn't the deepest game I have ever played. It feels a bit lighter than some of Hacksaw's gritty stuff. But for a few pints and a casual spin, it is decent fun. The slicing mechanic keeps you watching the screen, hoping for a massive split. If you like sweet themes and are not looking for a headache, it is worth a spin, though I would not say it is an all-time classic.
