I popped into Cursed Crypt recently, and it is definitely not your standard sunny holiday in Cairo. Hacksaw Gaming has gone proper dark with this one, giving it a gloomy, ominous atmosphere that feels more like a sci-fi horror than an ancient tomb. The visuals are striking with these glowing green hues and a robotic figure standing guard, reminding me a fair bit of Hand of Anubis. It runs on a 5-reel, 4-row grid with 1,024 ways to win, and the soundtrack mixes traditional Egyptian tunes with a heavy techno beat that really sets the mood.

The payout system is straightforward enough, paying left to right. You have got the low-paying hieroglyphs carved in stone, and for the high pays, there are five scary looking god characters. The purple Pharaoh, who is Tutankhamun, is the top dog paying 15x your bet for five of a kind, followed closely by Sobek. The Wilds are decent too, paying 20x if you land a full line.

The main mechanic to watch for is the Curse symbol. When it lands, it shoots upwards to the top of the reel, creating Cursed Positions that all transform into the same random symbol. It is not using multipliers like some other Hacksaw games, but spreading a high-paying symbol across the reels can still land you a nice win. Overall, I had a good time with Cursed Crypt. It is a refreshing change not to be chasing multipliers for once, relying instead on that spreading symbol mechanic to connect wins. The production values are top-notch with that spooky Egyptian theme, and while the volatility can be punishing, the 4-scatter bonus is worth chasing. If you liked the dark vibes of previous Hacksaw titles, this one is well worth a few spins.
